UACES Student Forum Seminars: Teaching European Studies

The student forum seminars is for any PhD student who wants to improve their teaching skills. Up to 140.00 GBP is available towards travel and accommodation (more info), the event includes coffee breaks and lunch on the day.
The programme includes a mix of roundtables and interactive seminars to discuss common challenges around how to teach the European Studies. The roundtables will discuss different experiences, comparing teaching methods and expectations across Europe, as well as showcasing what PhD students can do in terms of teaching innovation and publication. The seminars will focus on the challenges encountered when teaching the EU in crisis and the skills required by postgraduate students to successfully teach European Studies. The conference is an excellent opportunity to meet fellow students who are engaged in related areas of research.
The event is organised be UACES Student Forum Committee, who will also be having elections during the conference.
The conference will take place at the John McIntyre Conference Centre in the Prestonfield Room.
To register for the conference, delegates will be required to pay a deposit of 10.00 GBP. This will be refunded in cash upon arrival at the conference. Registration will close on Tuesday 5 January. It will not be possible to turn up and register on the day because of the security at the venue.

There is financial support towards travel and accommodation, for up to 45 students attending this event. On offer, is up to 90.00 GBP for travel, and up to 50.00 GBP for accommodation, subject to the terms and conditions, for eligible students.
This funding will be offered on a first come, first served basis to eligible students (i.e. the first 45 to register for the conference).

The conference venue is just Southeast of the centre of Edinburgh with many city buses going past.

Edinburgh is easy to reach by train. Regular services run to the capital from around the country and the East Coast line is the fastest intercity railway in the UK, meaning trains from London to Edinburgh take less than 5 hours.
Edinburgh has great rail links to other major cities too. York, Newcastle, Inverness and Aberdeen are all about 2 hours away while Glasgow is just 50 minutes away on the ScotRail service which leaves Waverley train station every 15 minutes.

If you're on a budget then buses and coaches are a great travel option. There are regular coach services from London and all major UK cities to Edinburgh. While they are usually cheaper than train services covering the same routes, journey times are longer.
Edinburgh Airport is one of Scotland's busiest airports, with over 25 airlines offering direct and connecting flights to and from more than 100 UK, European and international destinations. For flight information and travel from Edinburgh International Airport visit: www.edinburghairport.com. An express bus service runs every 10 minutes from Edinburgh Airport to Waverly Train Station taking 30 mins for ~4.50 GBP.
Flights are also available from Glasgow Airport. From the airport there is a First 500 Glasgow Shuttle bus every 10 minutes to Buchanan Street Bus Station (30 mins) to switch to Service 900 running every 15 mins to Edinburgh taking approximatety 1 hr and 20 mins.
